Japanese Market to Open at the Nightingale Building

All of us at Cornish and the team at the Nightingale Building wish a warm welcome Maruichi Japanese Food & Deli, opening at 113 Washington Street this upcoming Spring. We’re excited to finally share the big news with the greater community.

Maruichi is part of the Fuji Mart Corp, based in Stamford, CT. The business will be open seven days a week and specialize in Japanese grocery staples and prepared foods amongst other delicious offerings.

The first Maruichi store was opened as a small business called “Fuji Mart” in Greenwich, CT back in 1991. Today, the company operates a series of grocery stores across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The new Providence location will be the company’s first expansion into Rhode Island.

Maruichi will offer a full range of Japanese groceries, sushi-grade fish, Japanese cuts of meat, and prepared foods including onigiri, sushi and sashimi, bento boxes, seaweed salads, and other dishes from Japan.

The in-store cafe will serve a variety of tasty Japanese snacks, matcha lattes, and Japanese coffee and teas.

The store will also host celebrations of Japanese culture throughout the year, highlighting choice imports such as sashimi from Tokyo’s famous Toyosu Market and Miyazaki Wagyu beef.

“Maruichi is all about bringing the experience of shopping in Japan to American customers,” says Joshua Nakama, Vice President of Fuji Mart Corp. “We’re constantly searching for curious communities that are eager for our unique brand of authenticity and accessibility. We’re lucky to have found that in Providence. Maruichi is excited to bring both the everyday and the hard-to-find of the Japanese culinary world to Providence and the Rhode Island community.”
