Announcing New Improvements to Grant’s Block for Spring

We’re thrilled to share with you our new plans for Grant’s Block.

If you’ve passed by recently, you’re aware that the construction is well underway. The park space at the corner of Union and Westminster streets is being updated to include new perimeter seating surrounding the existing park area, improved lighting throughout the park and adjacent parking lot and updates to the hardscaping.

Across the parking lot, on the corner of Weybosset and Union streets, a new dog park is being built.

The initial phase of the construction began in late fall and included work underground to prepare for new finishes and landscaping. That phase has now been completed and the remainder of the project will be completed by late Spring.

In recent years, Grant’s Block has been home to popular community events organized by Cornish Associates and InDowncity, including Movies on the Block, the Rock and Roll Yard Sale, Celebrate Downcity, and many more. The park has become the central hub of the Westminster neighborhood, attracting daily lunchtime visitors, preschool children and downtown residents alike. When the construction is completed, the space will continue to be open to the public and remain a location for community events organized by InDowncity and other downtown partners (including neighboring restaurant Oberlin).

Cornish is working in conjunction with Union Studio Arch, Landscape Creations, and Ryan Associates on the construction.
